The Battle for Bannockburn

1314

When Scottish forces under Robert Bruce threaten English held castles of Berwick and Stirling, Edward II led an army of 15,000 including 2,000 horse, north to attack the Scots. Bruce deployed 8,000 men and defeated the British as the crossed a river. For the loss of 4,000 men, the Scots had ended immediate English hopes of conquering their land.

1997

When Environmentalists threaten to save ancient Yellow Gum forest held by Barwon Water, Barwon water led a force of 80 police including 28 vehicles, west to assail the environmentalists. The environmentalists deployed 40 people and defeated Barwon Water as they cleared the Yellow Gum forests. For 3 weeks of bruising protests with police and security guards and the loss of 8 ha of ancient forests, the environmentalists had ended Barwon Water's immediate hopes of destroying the land.
