Lake Elizabeth was registered in 1984 by the Australian Heritage Commissions(AHC).

The AHC cites logging as a threat to the lake Elizabeth catchment.

Condition and Integrity : Present condition is good with little disturbance from logging in recent times. However, the land surrounding the lake (including the catchment) is controlled by forestry and logging may take place in the future. (Statement as at December 1993)

The AHC lists all of the headwaters of the East Barwon catchment as an area of National Estate.

Location : About 1300ha, 5km south-east of Forrest, comprising the upper catchment of the Barwon River (East Branch) that lies southeast of a line joining AMG points: 7620-Otway-398297 and 391284.
