RSOS located in Otway State Forest are not protected

Four RSOS are located within the Otway State Forest and are not protected from logging. Although rainforest itself cannot be logged, the eucalypt forest within rainforest sites of significance can be logged.

The Otway Forest Management Plan did not protect RSOS within state forest.

The West RFA did not take into consideration the existence of RSOS.

The Land Conservation Council was disbanded in 1997. No final decisions regarding the protection of RSOS have ever been made.

With no body such as the Land Conservation Council to formally decide how rainforest in RSOS should be protected, Forestry Victoria are now out to clearfell log as much RSOS as possible.

Until the State Government competes the process of identifying appropriate management and protection strategies for RSOS in the Otways, all logging is RSOS should be suspended.

Any arguments put forward by the Otway native forest logging industry to log in RSOS will validate the argument that there is little sawlog ash resource outside these areas and validate the criticism Forestry Victoria have been deliberately keeping the community ignorant on RSOS issues.
