Section 6.6 Otway Forest Management Plan

Extract for OFMP Section 6.6 Landscape

Sawlog harvesting can be planned, and coupes designed and located, to minimise the effect. Coupe size and shape, screening edge characteristics and manipulation of colour and texture through site preparation techniques can ensure that visual quality standards are met. In Zone A areas, these techniques are often applied at the expense of a loss in the net area available for timber production. To facilitate long-term sustainable yield calculations and the design of individual coupes, a nominal proportion of Zone A timber stands will be excluded from harvesting.

ACTIONS
Allow for a 40-year delay in logging of up to 20% of productive stands in Landscape Management Zone A when calculating sustainable yield to facilitate coupe design ..... High Priority
